Energy Signatures for the Final Four!

Aug 21, 2020

Whew! From looking at the general Presidential Energy Signature (44 from the past) and the Democratic primary field (28 candidates), we’re now down to two – and their plus-ones. It gives me an opportunity to delve into more of the dynamics of Energy Signatures, specifically the pros and cons – gifts and challenges – of the five energy types.

Like so many things, there are “2 sides of the coin” to each energy type. In reality, the gifts and the challenges are at the edges of a spectrum; the more you’ve worked through your challenges, the more you will exhibit the “gift” side of the attributes.

Here’s that cheat sheet again as a download.

So let’s get into it! I think you’ll agree it’s a fascinating perspective.

Donald Trump – Warrior-Lover (Royal)
On the pro side of things, we can see Trump has leadership qualities and thinks big picture (but reacts emotionally in the moment – Lover). Warriors are the best communicators! Successful salespeople are often Warriors, so it’s no surprise it’s a main type for Trump. It’s his strongest business strength - selling his brand.

The cons of the type arise from the core issue for a Warrior - trust and betrayal. We see that play out in Trumps’ demand for absolute allegiance to him above all else, filling his staff with family, loyalists and donors. He lashes out at and punishes those he feels betrayed by (Warriors are quick to express their anger.) People develop Warrior patterning as a child when they are catapulted into responsibilities beyond their abilities. With Trump, this was possibly being made to “step into the shoes” of the eldest brother. This results in bravado and confidence that overlay a deeper insecurity. They like to be in control, and use intimidation and charm to get their way.

The core issue of the Lover is a deep need to be with others, in a way that blurs boundaries. The way he feeds off the energy of his audiences at rallies is typical Lover. He wants to be the center of attention – and the news cycle – at all times. Lovers take care with their appearance, and the Warrior-Lover combination is usually very attractive/enticing. The pros of the Lover – a sweet, nurturing side – may only be evident to his family.

Joe Biden: Royal–Gardener (Warrior)
Presidential energy types usually have two of these types in their Signature - Warrior, Royal and Gardener. Biden has all three, but unlike many Presidents, Warrior is not a main type – it’s his minor third. He can lead but doesn’t HAVE to – which is why he was a great VP pick. Royals will step into leadership to get the job done – and indeed they are the most organized, efficient, and productive of the types! The con side is perfectionism, which may be seen in how he takes a long time to make important decisions – like running for President or picking his VP. They are driven to perform, fighting a sense that they are “never good enough” – their core issue stemming from childhood experience.

As a Gardener he has a big-hearted, empathetic, and compassionate side that endears him to people. People-pleasing Gardeners are always well-liked, and they are also workhorses with a lot of physical endurance. He was very popular and got a lot done in the Senate - working with people from both sides of the aisle. As for the cons - their boundaries can be too accommodating, and that can get them into trouble (read Part Two for some examples of that). They are not the best communicators of the types; it doesn’t surprise me that he stuttered in his youth and is prone to verbal gaffes.

On to the VP’s!

Kamala Harris - Warrior-Royal (Lover)
Most attorneys are Royal, and criminal attorneys are almost always Royal Warriors. Royal attributes come into play in the exacting nature of the profession, requiring great attention to detail that the other types lack. And a Warrior is always up for a good fight!

Her Warrior pattern was perhaps in response to the divorce of her parents; or having an immigrant mother with an accent that she felt she had to stand up for (a role many 2nd generation immigrants played for their parents). Whatever the reason, the Warrior is the only type that does not shy away from conflict – why it will be so interesting to watch her tangle with Trump (while the Gardeners, Biden and Pence, can play the nice guys).

Her Lover third speaks to her charisma (ditto Trump). Biden wanted to generate excitement on his ticket with her, and for many reasons she filled that bill. Her nurturing side can be seen in her interactions with children on the campaign trail, and when she talks of family.

Mike Pence – Royal-Gardener (Priest)
Pence, as a Royal, picks up the details for Trump - and his accommodating Gardener makes him the most pliant servant in Trump’s world. He gets put in charge of the particulars (like the corona virus task force) without drawing attention to himself. He always tows the line and never contradicts his boss, escaping his wrath!

Royal Gardeners make the best employees – hard-working and loyal, never complaining or expressing their own needs (part of the communication “con” for their type.)

He was one of six children, so blending in and supporting the group effort comes naturally. The Gardener core issue arises from a childhood pattern of subjugating their needs in order to please others. He is the perfect complement to Trump, who is plenty exciting on his own and needed a soldier, not another general.

Pence was raised Catholic, and is very religious in a Royal, rule-bound way (Royals love rules). This speaks to his third type, Priest, and his conservative stances on social issues.
