Moving and Shaking

Jun 19, 2020

Are we revisiting history with the (Spanish Flu) pandemic of 1918, the Great Depression of 1929, and the Civil Rights Movement of 1968, all at once?

A friend recently noted that the current astrology* is very similar to the late 1960’s and early 70’s. Let’s remember what was going on back then…

…the Civil Rights Movement, the Feminist Movement, “Gay” Liberation, Vietnam protests, Cesar Chavez and the United Farmworkers boycotts, the Environmental Movement and “Earth Day” (and we now have the 500-lb gorilla in the room, climate change).

That’s a WHOLE LOTTA MOVEMENT!

Basic cultural mores and values were being questioned - materialism, equal rights, sexuality, what a family should look like. You can see some progress since then, but – not enough. So this is the moment, again, to turn the world upside down and shake out what’s holding us back from evolving.

And I think we can all say we are all truly shaken right now.

You might have the same feeling as Frodo did in “The Lord of the Rings” (a classic movie trilogy) – in one of many difficult and defining moments:

Frodo: "I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened."

Gandalf: "So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."

It’s a lot to take in; but that is what’s happening. We can, together, handle more than we think. A system needs to break down to re-organize, whether it’s the body or the body politic. But it’s not a pretty or neat process.

What will you do in these times?

First, attend to the self. You aren’t much good otherwise (here are some ways to do that in my “Corona Care Kit”). Maybe you have others depending on you as well. Whatever you can do is enough, but meet the times in your heart and in your mind.

Study implicit bias. Reflect on your status. Contemplate what your “lane” is – what is familiar, what is close to home. Pick. One. Thing to do. One Thing to support.

For instance, at the LA Times the reporters are questioning the lack of diversity in their profession. A black writer has started researching and posting the bigger advances white writers get for their books from publishing companies.

My lane is healing, and I offer free Covid healing sessions – click here to find out more.

It’s also important to be politically active. Have a voice. Take a stand. Make a call. Vote. For the first time I was not out protesting these past weeks. Never before did I have to consider preparing with anti-tear gas solution, rubber bullet barriers, or wearing a mask. I went after things calmed down a bit (!) because I am so inspired by the people – especially the younger generation - and the spirit of the times.

If you are feeling resistance to change, it's because it's an uncomfortable place to be.

In the end, all things are connected.  Your one small thing adds up. Change happens, fast and slow.

As always, I welcome you to share your thoughts and inspirations.

Peace, love and healing -

* here is an excerpt from my June 2018 newsletter - “I am not an astrologer but have seen over the years how much these really BIG energies affect us. There are huge transitions going on. Dramatic shifts are percolating, and will apparently be ongoing at least thru 2020. Remember the stuckness of the Great Recession? That was frustrating, but now we are on (whatever summer fair ride makes you wet your pants) and there is no getting off."
