Yin, Yang and the New Moon

Jul 24, 2025

The full moon’s energy peak is well known for its drama with more deaths, births, and general spike of activity. The new moon today, July 24th, is just as potent in its effect on the tides and the waters of the earth – including our bodily fluids. New moon is the yin, a pull inward; full moon is the yang, outgoing movement. Generally women release their “flow” at the full moon; within that cycle, the new moon is the time when an egg is released and waits to receive, to be fertilized.

Moon phases were part of the original timekeeping tools! Native Americans had names for each full moon describing the activity of the season. Beyond that, each new and full moon has a distinct astrological footprint; they occur in different signs and are in a unique relationship to other planets. Another related factor, impacting earth and planetary life at any given moment, is the sun’s activity.

A coronal “hole” is an area where the sun’s corona is cooler and less dense. Strong blasts of solar wind can emanate from it and cause geomagnetic storms on earth. A large coronal hole will directly face the earth at this new moon. The high velocity solar wind is a push of charged particles; when the pressure is released a “pull”, or vacuum is created which has been correlated with earthquakes. That’s one way this particular moon’s effects might be strengthened!

The moon and the sun are both in Leo at the new moon. Leo is a fire sign; an area in the Pacific that is being watched for seismic activity is called the “Ring of Fire".  Leo’s fire also represents the heart and courage. So like the lion in Wizard of Oz, we’re called to recognize our own spirit, strength, and heart-felt purpose so needed in these times. With Mercury, Pluto, Saturn and Neptune all in retrograde, the moon’s yin energy of reflection versus action is enhanced. So release the mind (Mercury) and nourish your inner qualities; set the seeds of intention for the coming days.

Although it’s a momentous, fast-moving time of destruction, creation and chaos - cosmic time is much slower than any news cycle! The new moon in Leo is directly opposite Pluto in Aquarius, our shepherds into the New Age - unfolding over the next 20 years. We need to pace ourselves - so take a breath at this new moon!

PS. There are lots of cosmic signs to muse on the next few weeks. We're currently in the Sirian star portal, culminating in August's Lion’s Gate (Leo again!) These events are also associated with the influence of galactic beings on earth; are they dialing in more directly these days to aid in our big transition?
