We’re Not Going Back

Jan 08, 2026

Kamala’s campaign mantra referred to the previous administration of her opponent. Little did we know a “return” would mean returning to the late 1800’s, known as the “Gilded Age” of Robber Barons. A wealthy few created monopolies to dominate key sectors of the economy, amassing huge fortunes. With corrupt politicians, they ruthlessly exploited natural resources and labor, widening income inequality. Tariffs were in (a general tax on all, no income tax for the rich) along with - colonialism!

We are witnessing a revival of that this week - it’s called neo-colonialism. Nations no longer have to move “settlers" into an annexed territory; they just need to control the politicians and economies through force. In past centuries European countries worked to colonize the world, fighting over natural resources. America WAS one of those colonies, but with a more knowledgeable immigrant population from Europe that didn’t last long!

That’s also a difference today; a majority of Americans won’t go quietly into that dark age because we understand ourselves as a democracy. These ARE revolutionary times, but it’s not as much about physical force and power-over as a it is about consciousness. It's a revolution to create an egalitarian society that respectfully meets everyone's basic needs, opening up the true potential of the human race. To wisely shepherd resources that our rich earth provides in abundance. With freedom and justice for all...

Our imperfect union subdued Native Americans, imported slaves and claimed territory by force. Manifest Destiny and the rise of individualism was the same aggressive mindset of colonialism brought over from the “Old World”. In time  we began to understand a different way, espoused in words and policies if not always in action. The idealism of America has NOT changed, and now our commitment to that is being tested.

The success of this revolution depends on solidarity. You can feel it in tangible ways at a protest rally, volunteering, or among friends. We are supported by the institutional caretakers who ARE standing up. It’s a collective energy field that is reciprocal - we help create it and in turn are nourished by it. Every religion stresses the need to gather together. Who we surround ourselves with is critical. That doesn’t mean we ignore or disdain others with different views. We can bring an understanding presence to those interactions, and also limit them.

Thich Nhat Hanh expanded the idea of toxic influences beyond substances before the "Information Age”. There's a battle on that front line now as the new Robber Barons monopolize the media and try to colonize our thoughts. (I like my news straight, short and pithy, still delivered as important but without the dramatic charge; it helps to protect my energetic balance.)

How do we show up? Our thoughts and intentions are primary; but It’s intention leading to initiative that will make the difference now. Initiative will get you around positive people and environments that will impact the mundane world. Thoughts, prayers and dreams need to roll up their shirtsleeves and get to work! How are you engaging with your deeper purpose of being here, now, in a human body? It’s an essential part of bringing in the new - and not going back to anything that we’ve known before.

Peace, love and healing -
