The Quantum Mind

Aug 28, 2025

We humans still need to integrate the main aspect of quantum mechanics into our thinking; that the basis of material things is NOT material. It’s a big contrast to the general view of the world, where the physical is considered to be more “real”. Although often discounted, our experience has always included the energetic and spiritual. Psychology has its foundations in quantum theory. Freud, Jung and Reich posited that non-material forms - energy structures - are templates of physical reality.

In the past psychology was denigrated as pseudo-science, because it recognized that energetic blueprints become manifest in human personality and behaviour. Freud believed the human psyche was created by a personal unconscious. Jungian archetypes are universal; symbolic blueprints in the collective unconscious. Reich correlated energetic “character” types with emotional and psychological patterns that were evident in the physical body.

Previously, Newtonian physics established that all phenomena depend on the properties of matter. Bohr’s model of the atom consisted of the nucleus and electrons - particles of matter. Quantum mechanics proved that once an electron enters an atom, it becomes a wave – a probability wave, with no mass or energy. Yet what kind of molecules form and how they interact with each other is determined by the behavior of these “probability fields”!

Per Einstein, an action creates an effect when a signal travels through time from one point to another. In quantum mechanics, influences can act instantaneously over long distances. Called “nonlocality”, it speaks to the concept of wholeness; a holistic universe where seemingly separated things can be connected. Quantum thinking is that the entire visible world is an emanation out of a cosmic background, which is the primary reality; the physical world is secondary.

In psychology, the process of individuation is an innate capacity to become aware of the Self. Searching for wholeness would be meaningless in a Newtonian world of separate material things. The impulse to unite what is divided has found a physical basis in quantum mechanics. The word “consciousness” derives from the Latin, “con” and “sciencia”, and it means a state of “knowing together”. Ultimately there is only one consciousness: our personal consciousness is merely a part of a cosmic system. Quantum physics is a scientific way to describe the potential interconnectedness of all things and beings.

Newtonian physics describes basic, predictable interactions in the visible world. It serves a purpose, but why do most still act as if it's the only reality? Guides told me it was the “lowest common denominator” of experience that we can all agree on to describe everyday phenomena. Once we truly embrace quantum mechanics and the reality of our cosmic connective tissue, we will be operating from a higher dimension.

Let’s welcome the “official” recognition of the quantum world being celebrated this year!
