It’s easy to relate to the current astrological indications of political revolution. It echoes historical events of the “masses” rising up against tyranny and inequality. King George III was barking mad and refused to hear the petitions of his subjects in America. There were many Loyalists who preferred not to upset the status quo, but the insane King’s intransigence was a defining factor (along with tariffs - er, taxes) that led to the Revolutionary War. Are we doomed to repeat history?
There's a bigger question around these dynamics. Yes, our democracy is in trouble - once again, as students of American history can point to other close calls. Is that all bad? Let’s look at the previous revolutions that happened under the same planetary alignments and where we are now.
The American Revolution (1775-1783) was about conflicting interests (the English citizens of America didn't like being treated like a “colonial outpost”). Discontent had been brewing and was literally solidified with the tax on - tea?! Open, bloody warfare ensued involving the Loyalists, American “Patriots” and the English army. It was one of the first wars of liberation, and along with France began an era of many wars fought to gain independence.
The French Revolution (1787-1799) was another violent revolt during this time frame indicated by astrology. King Lois XVI was executed along with Marie-Antoinette by the newly invented guillotine. It became a symbol for the “Reign of Terror” that ensued, killing thousands. In both revolutions, a combination of social, political, and economic factors culminated in a crisis the current regime proved unable to manage.
The ideals coming out of those revolutions are still alive and considered to be fundamental principles of liberal democracy. The motto and rallying cry for the French people during the Revolution was “liberty, equality, and fraternity”. In America Patrick Henry proclaimed "Give me liberty or give me death!"
We have our Declaration of Independence and the Constitution; France has The Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. They established the fundamental principles of natural rights, including liberty, property, security, and resistance to oppression. Both rejected a monarchy and a feudal system and were replaced by a central government. The revolutions of that time led to increased individualism and the secularization of the state.
The American government is now transformed into a “regime” with one group having consolidated power. American citizens have been declared the enemy within and subject to search, seizure, and violence from federal law enforcement (ICE) and military forces. As in all corrupt autocracies, basic services to the people have been cut while the oligarchs get richer. Coupled with technological power to advance their policies, the institutions of democracy are crumbling. This is a new era of oppression.
Yet the overarching cosmological energies and karmic tendencies are always mediated by free will. We must be active co-creators of our shared reality to rise above the times. It will be a long haul. The mad wanna be king has destabilized the world order! Historically, a people's revolution under these cosmic influences brought about a new beginning where independence, freedom and consensus were cherished values.
It’s important that everyone show up for peace, love and healing at the national NO KINGS rally on October 18th!
