The latest victim of the regime didn’t know she would make the ultimate sacrifice that day; or that in death she would become a rallying point against all the injustice preceding it. This incident will go down in history. So much damage has been done that even some of the most cynical, hopeless and apathetic are responding to stop the brutality and lawlessness. As horrific as having a paramilitary force roaming the streets is, there is an equally important reason to end this reign of terror.

The Department of Homeland Security Agency was created in response to 9/11 by President Bush, along with laws eroding civil rights and privacy. These were implemented to fight the terrorist threats coming from outside the country. The current regime has turned that around, declaring its own citizenry the main threat. Its current goal is to implement a police state to terrorize and control - AND establish that control permanently through a surveillance state.

How much power does Homeland Security have? It’s the third best-funded “military” in the world after the U.S. and China. It has an armed militia, Palantir’s software framework (formerly used for espionage), and unlimited money being used to buy surveillance technology. All our personal data held by the government used to be in “silos" for our privacy. Those databases were not only stolen last  year, but merged into one. The tech oligarchs, aligned with the current regime and its goals, are constantly tracking our identities, interactions and locations.

Up until now, America has been a rules-based society; but when the government ignores its own laws, is it game over? Protest is meant to call out wrongdoing, limit damage, and hold our elected officials and others accountable. Intense, loud, and vociferous but remarkably peaceful, it has stopped wars here and toppled governments around the world. 

Prophets, astrologers, foreign affairs experts and civil rights lawyers all agree that no matter what happens, this is going to be a fateful year. In the continuing flood of unimaginable, alarming events it’s important to stand up for what is just. No one can know what will be asked of us if we do.    

In alchemy impure substances are burned off to reveal treasure. Scum - dross - forms on the surface of molten metal. Dross is what’s rising up to be transmuted in humanity right now. To finally overcome the instinctual impulses of anger, hate and violence is a magical act!  The  future of our species depends on the outcome.

Connection is Good. Evil arises out of separation and leads to corruption, greed, and lust for power. Fortunately all of us have a longing for oneness that can lead toward our highest selves. Remembering that, we join hands to embrace connection; we can’t survive alone. It's a tragic but still hopeful time. Be motivated by the strength we see all around us as we resist tyranny.

Renee Nicole Good is a guiding light. Her final words to her killer were “I’m not mad at you” -  reaching out to say I recognize your humanity, we are not enemies. Acting with compassion doesn’t guarantee a situation won’t escalate. Who knows what personal history compelled him to respond with deadly force to those kind words. Her example helps bring forth the best in us as we face another year of inevitable conflict between love and hate.

How can we demonstrate that kind of enlightened bravery? To conduct ourselves in a way that is compassionate AND effective, contributing to a new era of -
